How to get involved at a local food charity
Do you want to feel good by doing something amazing? We offer you the opportunity to do just that: try to volunteer with Urban Food Alliance. We have a system where families come together to help those in the community who are hungry. Children over 10 (with their parents present to supervise and help) and adults can help with boxing food. When the boxing is completed, volunteers get to enjoy a discounted meal from the restaurant where to food preparations take place. Together we can make an impact in providing hunger relief in our local communities.
Urban Food Alliance is looking for organizations to sponsor and/or volunteer for food preparation and delivery events. Members of your organization will enjoy getting together to help others.
Our South Brunswick, NJ chapter meets every week at noon at Khan Baba Restaurant on Rt. 27.
You can help by collecting funds to sponsor an afternoon of meal making, and then bringing volunteers to help with the preparation and distribution of these meals. We will need two levels of crews who can do both activities or a single task.
Box Food
Starts at noon every Saturday. We will need 10-12 volunteers to be part of the assembly line to box up approximately 150-200 meals.
Deliver Food
Three crews (with cars) who will deliver the meals between 2 pm- 5 pm to our different locations:

South Brunswick – We work with the Township’s Social Services Department to assist families who are in need of a hot meal.

New Brunswick – We deliver food around the New Brunswick train station area, to Elijah's Food Pantry, and to other families or individuals in need.

Trenton – We deliver food in the Hamilton & Trenton area to low-income housing facilities and shelters.
Use the calendar to sign your organization up for a specific date to help out! This date will be reserved for you and your group. Prior to this date, please hold some sort of fundraising event to sponsor the meal. Any donation is accepted, and you can bring your group of volunteers on the day that you have signed up for.
Are you not part of a group, but want to help out as an individual? No problem! Check our calendar and choose a day that has not been reserved by a particular group. We are making meals on a weekly basis and will need help whenever other organizations are not sponsoring that day. Please feel free to come and help starting at noon, or to contact us if you have any questions.
High school students who need to complete volunteer hours in order to graduate will be given a certificate of participation.
